Chalfont St Giles, The Green c.1965

We lived in Chalfont until 1961 when we moved to Leigh-on-sea. I lived up the footpath in a bungalow at the side of the garage, opposite The Pheasant pub. I remember putting pennies around the green, and shopping in Paynes shop, where they had a barbers in the back and Paynes paper shop. I also remember placing a penny on the edge of the green. I went to the infant/junior school and I'm sure there was a teacher called Mrs Jelly. I remember a teacher getting married and my grandmother (we lived with her in the Laggar before it was tarmacked) sending a jar of homemade jam in with me as a wedding present. We lived in Back Lane probably from 1954 to 1958. I went to the local village school where Mrs Larter taught me italic writing (still commented on to this day) and Mr George was the headmaster. My elder sister was in Mr Stacey's class. When we walked home from school we walked past Milton's cottage up to Three Households. I am trying to get some info on Chalfont and wonder if anyone can help me with some 'memories'. I am 64 now and having recently returned to the UK after many years in the USA, and I am trying to find out about my past.
