More about this scene
The author and his family have had many a happy holiday on this site. My parents eventually had several vans on this field. All had picturesque names, for instance 'Jasmine', 'Magnolia', and 'Elizabeth', named after my sister who was killed in a road crash. Mr R C Smith was the site owner, shop proprietor and general repair man, and he lived in the White House. South Road is to the left, and the sea is only one field away to the right. The White House is now the White House pub and Restaurant.
