Wonderful Memories Of Great Holidays
A Memory of Chapel St Leonards.
When I was around 11 years old in the early '60s we used to go to Chapel every year and stayed in Standish Bungalow. It was owned by my mother's employer who allowed us to go there as a reward for her devoted service. Lovely bungalow and so full of character and very secluded. I recall one year my father found a large box kite in the bungalow and suggested that we fly it on the beach, which was just beyond the front gate. We did manage to get it flying but with it being so large it took a lot of handling.
A short time after we got back to the bungalow a knock came at the door and there stood a coastguard chappie. He came around to check that all was in order as apparently we were flying a distress kite used by shipping. Needless to say that kite never again saw the light of day as far as we were concerned.
