More about this scene
This part of Chatburn, leading to Downham, is reminiscent of the many stone villages hereabouts, which according to legend and tradition are steeped in witchcraft. Chatburn, like Worston Hall, was part of the Honour of Clitheroe. Nowadays, the notoriety of the witches of Pendle has created a lucrative tourist trade, and Witches Galore is a mecca for souvenir hunters. In 2003, the museum at Clitheroe Castle made a film about the witches' lives and deaths.
