This view looks east past the lock to the graceful seven-arched stone bridge. It was built around 1780 by James Paine. It had to be partially rebuilt, and was renovated in the late 1980s. The boys in the foreground have a magnificent toy sailing boat.

Mrs. Thompson was the cook…she was very nice and her dinners were delicious…
The lady who’s name I can’t remember was in charge of the home was lovely , very caring and non judgemental…
I shared a room with Bridget who went back to Ireland…..

The boys home was an awful place but I remember falling in love with a blonde haired angel who like me, attended Stepgates School. Her name was Gillian Vincent and I still have a photograph of her tucked away somewhere. This was St Thomas's RC secondary school when I attended between 1957 and 1962. We had some fun and didn't learn much. More memories from past pupils are on the Friends Reunited website.
