More about this scene
The Astoria cinema, originally named the Chesham Palace cinema and replacing Harding's ironmonger's shop, went in the 1970s and the site is now occupied by an architecturally undistinguished Superdrug. On the left is the white render of the former Brandon's department store, a somewhat overpowering building, and to the right of The Cock Tavern is the 1950s neo-Georgian Barclays Bank, itself replaced in the 1980s.
