More about this scene
South-eat of Chesham town centre the road runs alongside the River Chess in its flat-bottomed valley. The road is lined by mainly 19th-century cottages in which lived the workers from the watermills, workshops and small factories that were originally powered by their water wheels, later by steam engines. This view looks across the river from the meadows towards Christchurch with the now demolished church hall to its right.
