More about this scene

The pub pictured here, the Spinner and Bergamot, was built in 1792, and is named after two racehorses. Enlargement of the sign in the photograph shows that 'Burgamot' is spelt with a 'u' rather than an 'e'. Burgamott was a kind of tapestry made from the hair of goats or oxen, so perhaps there is an old connection here with spinning and weaving.

A Selection of Memories from Comberbach

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Comberbach

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I and my brothers grew up in the paper shop on the left of this picture and a car parked outside was a rarity. My memory tells me this one belonged to the photographer who took the picture.
