More about this scene

The attractive stone built village stands on high undulating ground some four miles north-east of Oakham. Enclosed in 1800, the parish was in 1955 divided fairly evenly into arable and permanent grassland. Until 1928, when it was burnt down, the Hall stood at the east end of the village. The photograph selects a typical stone and thatch farmhouse group of the 17th and 18th centuries bounded by stone walls and picket fencing. A hospital of St Giles is mentioned here in 1266.

She opened up her residence to the American troops and they were there until an outbreak of measles at which time they were moved to another ...see more

The butcher would leave his straw hat hanging outside his shop when he wasn't there so you didn't waste time walking up the yard. The amazement when one of the thatched cottages on the main street I think was sold for £1500. Most ...see more
I think the landlord's name was George.  Can't remember his wife's name.  The food was marvellous, the atmosphere and friendliness second to none.  The Vista Golf was installed during 1969
