More about this scene
The attractive stone built village stands on high undulating ground some four miles north-east of Oakham. Enclosed in 1800, the parish was in 1955 divided fairly evenly into arable and permanent grassland. Until 1928, when it was burnt down, the Hall stood at the east end of the village. The photograph selects a typical stone and thatch farmhouse group of the 17th and 18th centuries bounded by stone walls and picket fencing. A hospital of St Giles is mentioned here in 1266.
