More about this scene
On seeing the ruined shell of this church today, the visitor may well get the immediate impression that it must have suffered from bombing during the war; but in fact the nave was demolished in 1977 because of dry rot in the roof, and today only the chancel end is still used. The church was originally built by the Grand Junction Railway Company in 1845. The tower, with its beautiful terracotta detail, was designed by the company engineer J W Stansby; it was added in 1877.
