Grandparents.

A Memory of Crowborough.

My grandparents, George and Hilda Topp, where landlords during the 60's and early 70's. Does anyone have any memories of them.

I remember your grandparents well. I used to drink in the White Hart in the early 1970's.
I remember regulars in the saloon bar - Monty White, Ken Drury, Brian?? Who used to play the piano and do amazing chalk drawings of cars on the floor.
George Topp was friendly with the landlord from the Hatch Inn at Colemans Hatch whose name was Bert. Everyone will remember 'Punch' the Head barman who wore a white coat. Happy days.

Punch was my grandfather have been trying to get any information about him for a long time
Hi I was only little when I knew Hilda & George Topp , my mum Eileen Neale was helping also my sister Debbie . I also remember punch, when they moved from the pub to a lovely house think they had a jack Russell .
I lived in Crowborough 1958 to 1969 and went to Skinners' School, and then to Cambridge and read Classics. I frequented the Book Club frequently, esp on a Saturday, to be "managed" by Miss Santoro and Mr Back, father of Nicholas and Penny - the latter being at TWGGS and we had many frinds in our coterie. I also frequented the White Hart with my father and twin brother Christopher, and have some good photos og George Topp, his elder daughter, "Punch" - his assistant, and my parents dancing at a Burnes' Supper there in about 1977. Another guest was Sid "Slaher" Jarvis, a barber down Queen's Road in Crowbororough I can forward jpg images to those who ask - no charge. I believe from some of her friends, that poor Penny Back died young of cancer.
Keep safe
Robin Bell (nearly 75, as is my twin brother ! )
