I went to West Hill school infants, and onwards to junior school in 1958 until 1960. The head teacher was Miss Smith, and our form teacher was Miss P. Smith to avoid confusion. I remember my first day, they put in indoor slide in a form room for the newbies. Everything was going fine until I got to the top, looked up and realised my Dad had gone and left me! I froze, screamed and cried and caused general disruption!
We then glued pictures onto paper with something that smelled of almonds. Outside toilet block which was freezing! My memories of this time are very hazy, can anyone add to this?
Gripfix was the almond smelling paste. I remember the slide as I got told off for pushing in.Mr Hodges was the caretaker. Also recall standing under the hall clock for something else. Miss Skinner also a lovely teacher
