More about this scene
This fine ivy-clad building was new in 1834, when it was opened as the Union Workhouse for the area. After the Workhouse closed, it was used as a geriatric hospital. Unfortunately, until recently, many of the old people in Daventry had a fear of 'ending up in the workhouse' as they became infirm. A new hospital is currently being built behind this wonderful 19th-century façade.
