Nostalgic memories of Davyhulme's local history

Share your own memories of Davyhulme and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

A view along Hayeswater Road from the roundabout sited halfway along the road. Even though I now live about 150m from the Moorside Road end of Hayeswater Road, it's difficult to tell in which direction we are looking - towards the Nags Head (Davyhulme Circle), or towards Moorside Road. I *think* we are looking towards Moorside Road. It's difficult to tell because in the last 60 years, the trees have grown much larger.
Being allowed to play freely, paddling in the "pool" at Davyhulme Park. Long sunny days, a bottle of water and bread and jam butties on the "hills". Using the greaseproof wrapper from butties to rub on the slide to make it more slippery. No mobile phones. In fact not many people had telephones come to think about it. When I was a kid it never went dark when it did I saw a tomato man in Davyhulme Park. One of my memories
Grimwoods was the best ice cream in the world. It was smooth and coloured cream - delicious! They had a shop on the circle and peddled their ice cream from a Bedford van around the Davyhulme area. The shop was on the right of the detached property in picture D104001.

But I have bought many a 78rpm from there. I attended St Mary's, ...see more
I also used to work in the butchers to the right of the photo, known as Spinx W Hittinghams then Hoyes, trained by Harold Mather. Top bloke.
A view from my local pub, the buffett room, used as a bar in the 80s when the pub was being done up.
Me and my friends camped on the circle for a dare untill the police moved us in the early hours. Date was about 1980.
When I was a child i used to play in the white house just past the garage just to the left of the picture when it was derelict.
