Mount Pleasant Inn still stands above the marshlands of Dawlish Warren, though it has changed somewhat since this photograph was taken. Two hundred years ago it was the headquarters of a notorious smuggling gang, who would store their contraband in the tunnels and cellars beneath the building. One longer tunnel is said to have run down to the beach.
