Nostalgic memories of Ealing's local history

Share your own memories of Ealing and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I remember this well, Christchurch, Ealing Broadway. I went here with school - Harvington - which was just off Ealing Common, we walked there down Springbridge Road past the swimming baths. I lived in Ealing from birth in 1939 until I married in 1961 - in Ealing Town Hall - and moved to Hillingdon. I was at Harvington from 1950 until 1956.
I was at Ealing Grammar School from 1968-1973. I remember a boy kicking a football close to this pond and his shoe coming off and flying in to the water. We had a history teacher - Mr Hayter - who was a keen fisherman and the next day - with a large audience to cheer him on - he went in to the pond in waders and found the shoe with a large hook.
We had our wedding reception in an upstairs room at Pauls over 51 years ago. We got married in St Marys Church on a damp November day and remember starting the 3 course with soup. The meal and the service was really good. I I I think there was a music shop next door that sold records!
I am a New Zealander born in 1946. From about 1950 to about 1953 my father worked for the NZ Government in London and my parents, my older sister and I lived in Lynwood Ave, Ealing during this time. I have many memories of this time and would love to hear from anyone who might remember us. My special friends were Johnny Budd and Johnny Pearson (his Nan used to load me down with sweets whenever I visited) and I ...see more
I lived in Perivale from 1946 to 1977 by the maternity hospital. Went to Drayton Secondary School in West Ealing from 1957 to 1962. John Walters was the head at that time. Travelled to school by train from South Greenford Halt to West Ealing. Spent many happy hours trainspotting in the milk depot in Manor Road. Remember a butchers shop there H King. When old enough (or was i ) frequented the Viaduct Inn in Hanwell and ...see more
On the right of this photo, opposite the Town Hall is the ABC Forum cinema, where I and my brother and sister along with lots of young children used to go on Saturday mornings to see a cartoon, a western, a Superman or Flash Gordon serial or a comedy. For the grand sum of 6d (2.5p in today's money) we were entertained on a Saturday morning, to get us out of our parents' way for an hour or two. We would sing the ABC minors ...see more

Did anyone attend St. Anne's school in the mid to late 70's??
Anyone remember when Mr.Stanley was a headmaster at Hobbayne primary school? Mid to late 70's? He was so strict and didn't mind using a whip or cane ...
My father's family lived in Balfour Avenue, Hanwell from 1907/8 onwards. I think my great grandfather possible bought the house for my grandparents wedding present. He was George Arnold, a pawnbroker and jeweller who had shops in Kilburn and Kentish Town. The Kilburn shop, I think, passed on to Teddie Brown, who was a cousin of George. The Brown family also had a shop in Ealing High Road. My ...see more
