A Selection of Memories from Edwinstowe

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Edwinstowe

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I have two memories, one of my grandfather, his name was Parr.He lived a bit down from the crossroads,he used to keep pigs and he used to work in the forest.I can always remember hams hanging from beams in the living room with a big fire.this must have been in 1950. My other memory was of my auntie, she was a big boxum lady who was a retired sister from Warrington hospital. She came to live with my widowed mother and I who ...see more
My wife, Brenda, and I have fond memories of the Major Oak. On 7th November 1959 I drove in thick fog to Sherwood Forest and found that the sun was shining there. I led Brenda into the hollow trunk of the tree (access was unrestricted at that time) and proposed to her... she accepted. There cannot be many girls who have been proposed to inside a tree!
My family all come from around Newark but my grandma on my mother's side lived in Edwinstowe and worked on her husband's farm. I recall visiting the farm on warm Sunday afternoons in my dad's car. I would go off exploring the farm on my own and watching the lad, of a similar age, milking the cows. I would be around 7/8 years old. Afterwards we would all go to the forest and play cricket for hours. Happy days.
Unfortunately I don't have any memories of Rexco but wonder if anyone does; in particular the turbine exploding or something similar. Thanks to all who reply.
