More about this scene
In the mid-19th century, Exmouth gained importance as a shipbuilding centre and fishing port - tons of herring were landed each month. Trains were laid on to rush the fish to the London and Midland markets. By 1906 these industries were in decline, and leisure boats were taking the place of fishing trawlers.
