Gilsland Wall is in fact part of Hadrian's Wall. This was constructed as the northern frontier between Scotland and Britain and remained so for some two hundred years. This section is a narrow part of the wall, since orders were received in AD125 to reduce its width. Hadrian's Wall stretched from Wallsend to Bowness, a distance of 73 miles.

Although I was not born in Gilsland I have many happy memories of childhood holidays. I was born in Millfield part of Newburn.
