Grantham, High Street c.1955

More about this scene
As we look south down High Street we can see that many of the buildings survive today, including the dormered building on the far left. Bearing in mind that this was the Great North Road , the A1, which now by-passes the town, the scene is remarkably tranquil. Nowadays Grantham is most well-known as the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher; her father's shop in North Parade had a brief apotheosis as The Premier Restaurant.
