More about this scene

Mr Pallister's butcher's shop flanks the entry to Bow Street. Next to him is Elizabeth's the outfitter's and then Mr Winter's jeweller's shop. All these shops were demolished in the early 1970s to make way for a rather incongruous modern building, which remains today. The entrance to the railway station can just be deciphered in the far distance, with the public conveniences in front, standing at the junction of Bow Street and Fountain Street. Again we see the trees on the east side of the street, home for many years to a thriving rookery. The bow window of the Seven Stars Inn flanks the right of the view.
