Old Lane - a Memory of Halifax.

In the late 1950s I used to live in the Drying Houses Old Lane Halifax with mam and dad and sister Sheila. I went to saint Thomas Moore's School and at the beginning of each new term we had to stand up and call out our address I hated it as everyone would snigger at the name Drying Houses. The Drying Houses have been demolished years ago. There was a railway line between it and Bank Top. Also living in the Drying Houses was a dear friend Denise Hurst who lived with her grandma and mother, she will be in her seventies now like myself and would have got married. We moved from there to Ovenden Avenue and I joined the RAF in 1962. I would be grateful to know if anyone also knows her or knows her whereabouts. My name is
Barry O'Brien

Not sure what to write? It's easy - just think of an important place in your life and ask yourself:

  • How does it feature in your personal history?

  • How has it changed over the years?
  • How does it feel, seeing these places again?
  • Do you remember stories about the community, its history and people?
