More about this scene
Moving west to the county's boundary with Yorkshire, our tour reaches Harworth, an old greatly expanded village lying east of the Tickhill to Blyth road. This is coal mining country, and despite all the 1980s and 1990s pit closures and the grassed- over slag heaps that dot west Nottinghamshire, Harworth still has its colliery. Around All Saints' parish church are a few older houses, but the church itself, apart from the medieval tower, was largely rebuilt in the 1860s.
