Haslemere, High Street c.1955

More about this scene
Back in Surrey, the route reaches Haslemere; we look south-west along the High Street into the market place of this small town, with the 1814 Town Hall closing the vista. It is a spacious High Street, benefiting from the well-treed backdrop of the greensand hills beyond. On the right is the Georgian House Hotel in buildings dating from around 1740. The pavements are now more formalised, and the petrol pumps have gone from the left-hand side, although the building behind is still a car showroom.
