The Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital has closed since this photograph was taken. The site is now occupied by a supermarket, which may or may not have greater social benefit, and sick children are catered for at Arrowe Park Hospital, with the reassuring backup of Alder Hey in Liverpool. One can imagine that the group in the lower left of our picture is one of farewell after a short stay. The appropriately dressed Sister speaks reassuringly to mother, with an older relative (grandmother?) providing support and TLC.

Scared
I Remember as a 6-7 year old child my self and my brother spending time here our family was quite large 12 children in all so I think my mother sent us off to this hospital so she could have some respite, I remember some nuns picking us up from Liverpool and taking us here I still remember being absolutely terrified and scared so much so I can still remember them putting a red plastic cover on my bed every night because i used ...see more

Heswall, Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital
I,ve lived in Irby in my early years in a prefab, temp housing after the war. I had a accident and went to Heswall hospital by milk float as we had no car or phone in those days. My memory was the open or charity days I think with a plane in the open grounds and we used to play on it, health and safety would be all over it nowadays. F.A.O All Nurses Who Worked On H.O.T Ward In The 70''s!
I have just found a photograph with the names, Denise O'Gorman and Marie Lafferty H.O.T ward Heswell Oct 1970 on the back. I believe my late mum was a nurse in this hospital in the 70's! I am looking for friends of hers. Her name was Patricia Gray and Stephenson when she married. Would really appreciate it if anybody could share any memories of her as unfortunately I don't remember her as I was a baby when she died.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
