Irby, The Village c.1955

More about this scene
These two views look along Thigwall Road. The white-painted single-storey building in the middle of the row of shops originally had a thatched roof and was Irby's only shop, doubling also as the village post office. When the gable-ended building to its right was built, it became the Irby Stores run by Mr A Constantine, who was still trading when these photographs were taken. It is now a Bargain Store, and the old post office has been demolished, to be replaced by a new row of shops with flats above.
