Knowle, Warwick Road c.1965

More about this scene
Knowle, one mile south-east of Solihull, contains several interesting old buildings, including the medieval Chester House, and the heavily restored 17th-century Red Lion. This scene looks very quiet, but it wasn’t always so. One Sunday in 1945 a tremendous explosion rocked the village, and a ball of flames erupted from behind the trees on Warwick Road. A Mosquito aircraft had crashed after developing engine trouble.
