Letchworth, Leys Avenue 1955

More about this scene
Named after the field on which it was built, Leys Avenue was, even in 1960, a busy shopping thoroughfare. The pace of life was only slightly slower than today, although standards of traffic safety might be questioned. The Commer van, 'Say it with Flowers' (left), is rather close to the zebra crossing and has been parked there for some time - it appears in the same position in the photograph of Barclay's Bank!
