The Grip
A Memory of Linton.
I moved into this cottage in 1953 with my parents and older sister. I remember very clearly looking out of the large window in the centre of the cottage wishing I was old enough to go to school with my sister. I was also very envious as she came home from school with a Coronation mug of the Queen and Prince Philip. When we first moved in, there was no inside bathroom or toilet and we got our water from a pump in the garden. I always loved that house even though I am convinced I saw a ghost there when I was about 8 years old ! The house number was 28, our phone number was Linton 558 and my father's car reg no. was BLP 911. Isn't it strange what we remember!

I was born in 1970, and from this year I lived at 28 The Grip, Linton. My Dad was keen to do some research on the families that lived here and the oldest he went back was to the Thorpes family hence the address is now;
Thorpes, 28 The Grip, Linton.
I was fascinated to learn that in 1953 that there was no bathroom in the house, did your family put one in. I think I may have emailed you before and you said that the toilet was on the top garden. We now have a bathroom in the room nearest the gate and also we have fitted another room above this room as bedroom, the loft, which overlooks the gate in the driveway.
Where was the outside pump and was there any trace of the buildings outside on the back garden?
I think the annex you mentioned is actually separated from our house and is called 28a.
I have been living in Australia for the last 25 years and I am now back. I am now 54 years old and very interested in the history of the house.
Kind regard
