More about this scene

This hamlet down in the East Looe river valley a mile from Liskeard was once a small centre of industry. The corn mill is on the extreme left, while out of shot is a large wool combing mill which brought prosperity for a while. The photograph is taken from a bridge over the Liskeard to Looe railway - Lamellion still boasts the tiny platform of Coombe Junction Station.

Dean Street Showing The Congregational Chapel On The Right.
Here is the Congregational Chapel on the right and the Post office in the Centre distance of the picture. The Congregational Chapel is on the ground where the Spar is now and the Post office is on the ground in the other picture dated 1909.

Motor Garage On Right Was My Great Uncle George Garage

hi there i was looking at the photo of the liskeard post office 1912 / and would like to mention that the Premises on the right was a motor repair garage i believe / which belong to one of my great uncles whos surname was jago/ being a brother of my great grandmother who was a jago ect // my mother says she use to go in there when she was young in the 1930s ...see more

My Late Husbaand
Hi, does anyone in St Cleer have any fond memories of my late husband, Arthur Mitchell? He was raised in Rose Cottage and he is buried in the chapel in St Cleer with his late parents, Alice and Len. Arthur was driving for Darley Ford coaches when I met him in 1982. I would love to hear from anyone. Regards Sue

Grammar School
I'm pretty sure this was the Grammar school. Not sure when it changed into the Grammar School though. Perhaps I should have paid more attention! It expanded over the years with many temporary buildings added at various times. When I attended 1966-73 there were close on 400 pupils ranging from 11-19. One of whom decided he would burn the school down, and yet more temporary buildings were added as a result! Houses are on this land now.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
