We first moved to Liskeard in 1964 and the police houses/station were on Higher Lux Street with more Police property going around the corner into Greenbank Lane. There were also some Police Houses across in Barras Place (Just below the old hospital. I remember that when I was about 12 - 14 a new dental surgery was opened in the Police Property on Greenbank Lane (67 - 69) but I think the New Police Station had been opened before that in about 1965 or 6. - It takes a long time to sell off Police Property. I think in my memory there was the Police Station and maybe one or two houses on Higher Lux Street and I'm sure the houses continued around the corner but I'm not sure in what format (I think the dental surgery was made from 2 which were set at right angles to the road. The Victoria pub was there - a bit further down towards Castle Street. The Unity Guest House was on the other side of the road and still is I think? Higher Lux Street was quite busy in my childhood days, with Dennis the butchers on the corner a cobblers shop, The Gilligans had a furniture & curtain place on your side of the road. I believe I can remember buying Icecream up there somewhere too although whether it was a shop or the Unity Guest House I have no recall.
