More about this scene

With its long winding street and fine houses, Long Melford is one Suffolk's most celebrated villages. In the distance is the late 15th-century church, partly obscured by the Holy Trinity Hospital founded in 1573 by Sir William Cordell. At the road junction is the Black Lion, rebuilt in 1839, and a grocer's known as Top Shop. The Tudor houses have been subdivided to provide houses for the poorer members of the village.

A Selection of Memories from Long Melford

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Long Melford

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I vaguely remember visiting the corner shop seventy years ago. Not sure if the owners were relatives or just friends of my grandparents. If anyone knows who lived there and operated the shop in the 1940s the information would be appreciated. David, in Napa, California
