More about this scene
The Church of St John the Baptist's most eccentric incumbent was the Rev William Davy (1743-1826), who printed twenty-six volumes of his 'System of Divinity' (unreadable, apparently, although you are welcome to try if you can find a copy) and followed it up with a mere six volumes of collected sermons. Neither made the best-seller list.
