More about this scene
Built in 1848 with funds raised almost entirely from public subscriptions, St Peter's was consecrated in July 1849 by the Bishop of Chester, Dr Graham. One of the church's distinguishing features was the high-pitched roof covered with ornamental Staffordshire tiles. This photograph was taken a few years prior to the tower being heightened so that it could accommodate a clock and a belfry.
