Morecambe, The Tower From Central Promenade c.1950

More about this scene
The buildings beneath the tower were completed at the turn of the 20th century. Just like Blackpool today, our tower building contained a theatre (later a cinema), a ballroom and gardens. When the tower itself came down in about 1912, the tower building continued to be a centre for entertainment. About this time it was renamed the Gaumont and became a cinema, but it closed in 1959. It then became a ten pin bowling alley through the 'swinging sixties', and then a bingo hall.
