Morecambe, The Central Pier 1906

More about this scene
The pavilion seen in our photograph was built in 1897 to dwarf the West End Pier dome that had just been completed. Locals soon found a nick-name for our end-of-the-pier Victorian edifice. They called it 'the Taj Mahal of Morecambe', and it was a wonderfully eccen- tric and ornamental building until it was burnt down in 1933.
