I was born at home in Seaforth Avenue in 1948 and had a happy childhood riding my tricycle around to the shops, walking across the fields to Green Lane Primary School, climbing the elm trees en route, going to Sunday School at Holy Cross and spending time at the library. Mum and dad moved to Consfield Avenue in 1941 when I was just 2 years old. The air-raid siren (on the top of Malden police station) always seemed to go off at the most inconvenient time, and there was always a panic to crowd into the shelter in the back garden,- and occasionally it meant sleeping there, which I always hated because Dad snored such a lot. I was born in Motspur Park on the 2nd Jan 1940.Lived in Tennyson Avenue until 1950 when we moved to Enfield. Went to Burlington Road infant school. I remember my father having an allotment by the railway station which is now there library, my mother worked in a bakery in the high street used to play there hide under the shop display with friends. I was born in 1947 - youngest of five (4 girls and a boy) lived on Seaforth Avenue. Motspur Park was a great place to grow up, we had such a wonderful childhood. As well as "The Park" at the end of Marina Avenue - tennis courts, putting green, bowling green, large sandpit and paddling pool, cricket matches in the summer, the large Pavillion where one could have afternoon tea, etc. there were also the ...see more
