Still In Northolt, After All These Years
A Memory of Northolt.
I now Friends reunited has closed down I was browsing the tintermnet and found this website, bit of a surprise
But anyway don’t know if anyone will remember me, Derrick
I used to live in Newbury Close, right next to the Vincent school gym and the girls play ground
My parents moved there in 53, their first and only home, they did eventually buy it
I had lots of happy memories living there, lots of mates
Peter Arnet, Jimmy Fisher, Paul Tucker (it’s hard to remember everyone after so long)
I had 3 sisters, Janet, Sandra, Rosemarie, one brother Michael
I used to spend a lot of time over the fields, newting at the figure 8 pond, I fell in there when it was frozen and ruined my first pair of long trousers
I climbed every tree over there
I remember the pig farm, (Its long gone now)
Some of the things I remember are >
The cabin, the Heights post office, the Dr Barnados home, (, no buses there was at the top of the estate unless you went to Northolt Station) Dr Foots surgery, the Eastcote Arms when it was a pub, The plough when it was there, The load of Hay, before it became a hotel and restaurant, Northolt village before it became a rat run
When we moved to the Fairview Estate we never even had a road, the estate was that new
I remember playing knock down ginger and annoying everyone
I went to Barrantyne, Islip manor infants, then Vincent Secondary Modern, the Head master was Mr Miller, deputy was Mr Watters, maths teacher Mr Fox, Tech drawing Mr Randolph, gym teacher Mr Mills, there was more but I don’t remember their names
I have looked for others I went to school with, but haven’t really found many, in fact just the one
Those I do remember are Terry Atkinson, Tony Brooks, Ian Coleman, Ron Bishop, Bob Bussey, Michael Beasley, Susan Foley, Linda Blackshire, Bob Scot, Terry Barker, there was more in my class I know, just cant remember them after all this time
I joined the Army in 68 until 84, I put away the boys toys an then became a plumber, worked at LHR until 2012, then retired
Been living in Wilsmere Drive for years it seems now
Still I have retire now, I just travel the world
Drop me a line if you know or remember me
Derrick

My parents garden used to back onto Charlie Harrisons garden (in New bury Way) I think he had 2-3 sisters
I went to Vincent secondary Modern, now Northolt High
As you look from Newbury close to Newbury way, on the right there was a block of four flats, Jeremy Taylor used to live in the top flat
I know Zara and Derek Hollyoak's mum still lives in Newbury way, I see her fleetingly though, but I don't think she recognises me now
I could throw out a few names that used to live in Newbury close, you might know them
Paul Tucker (had a couple of brothers and a sister)
Jimmy Fisher, had an older brother who liked track bikes and 2 sisters
Anthony Browning
Peter Arnet, had a sister, lived opposite me
Cant remember many more, the old memory is on the way out, these days
I lived at 27 Newbury Way next door to the Hayes Family. Pamela was my age, then came Malcolm. I am in touch with Zara who lives in Windsor now. My dad was the Co-Op Milkman. Its brill reading posts from people who lived there.
It’s all Facebook now
I knew Zara was in Windsor, her Mum told me, yup she is still alive and walking her dog, both are getting on now
Only person called Blackshire i can remember is Linda Blackshire (she was in my class, I used to swap emails but I haven’t heard from her in months now)
I saw Terry, he is still working but close to retirement now
I have looked all over Facebook for people I used to know, not much good, they might be all dead for all I know
Anyway it was nice to hear from you, maybe we will meet again, probably won’t recognise each other
Any idea what happened to Chris Daikin?
