Great Memories

A Memory of Oakenshaw.

Hi all, my name is Angela Longstaff I was born and bred at Oakenshaw in 1955 I lived at New Row with my family, Brother, David and two sisters Janet and Veronica and my parents were Polly and Gus. I remember with fondness my school years and teachers Miss Grey, Miss Wragg, and headmaster Mr Collins. The welfare Hall was also a great hub for bands and dances in the 60s, we also had three churches a coop shop and top shop post office, who remembers Mrs Vens sweet shop in new row? Also the cricket club and not forgetting the workmens club. This was a great community and environment to grow up in and I have great memories of people who lived there, yes I remember and are in contact with those people you both mentioned. Pam & Lynn Jenkins, Janet, Glynis & Katherine Bradley, Kenneth Brown, John Mc Donald too many to mention. Those were the days!!!!

Hi Angela, I live in the old Post office now Lovesome Hill House. Do you have any information or photographs about the Methodist Church or Sunday School which were once attached. I'm also really interested in any information about the drift mine that used to be at the side of Park View.
