Great Memories
A Memory of Oakenshaw.
Hi all, my name is Angela Longstaff I was born and bred at Oakenshaw in 1955 I lived at New Row with my family, Brother, David and two sisters Janet and Veronica and my parents were Polly and Gus. I remember with fondness my school years and teachers Miss Grey, Miss Wragg, and headmaster Mr Collins. The welfare Hall was also a great hub for bands and dances in the 60s, we also had three churches a coop shop and top shop post office, who remembers Mrs Vens sweet shop in new row? Also the cricket club and not forgetting the workmens club. This was a great community and environment to grow up in and I have great memories of people who lived there, yes I remember and are in contact with those people you both mentioned. Pam & Lynn Jenkins, Janet, Glynis & Katherine Bradley, Kenneth Brown, John Mc Donald too many to mention. Those were the days!!!!
