Outwood, The Post Office c.1955

More about this scene
Back to the west of Blindley Heath the route reaches Outwood, a hamlet on the edge of heath and woodland, some of it owned by the National Trust. The major landmark is the windmill, a post mill dated 1665. The old post office looked across the green towards it - indeed, the cottage next to the shop is called Windmill Cottage (the right-hand half is Forge Cottage). The post office is now a house, The Gallery.
