More about this scene

This is a typical Suffolk brick tower mill with four patent shuttered sails and a fantail. The mill was used as the subject of a TV interlude film in 1950s, and was watched by millions of viewers. It has been owned by the same family since the 1880s; conserved in working order, it is privately owned and open to visitors by appointment.

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Pakenham

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Pakenham...The only village in England with both a windmill and a watermill ! My daughter was born in Pakenham in the worst snowstorm in living memory. She was Christened at the Parish Church which stands next to the Vicarage which has a picture of a gentleman at a desk on a blocked up window said to have been painted by Whistler.
