Redditch, Evesham Street c.1955

More about this scene
Earlier pictures of Evesham Street show Cranmore Simmons on the corner, a family-run furniture business established by Alfred Simmons in the 1920s. Here we can see its replacement, a Burton's store typical of 1950s building styles (one hesitates to call it architecture). This was one of the few Evesham Street buildings to survive the demolitions of the 1960s (to the dismay of many - little did they know that even worse was still to come). Today it houses the Yorkshire Bank and Provident Personal Credit.
