More about this scene
Situated in the southwest corner of the Market Place, the building dates from the 13th century and was the home of Hugh Ripley, the first mayor of Ripon, who was appointed in 1604. The Wakeman was the title of the chief magistrate of the town; Hugh Ripley was the last to hold the office under that title.
