More about this scene

From the cross-roads at the centre of Romford we look towards London as a policeman prepares to control what little traffic there is. The Golden Lion on the right has served travellers on the Essex Great Road for centuries. The white building on the left belongs to Wilson and Whitworth, printers and publishers of the 'Romford Times'.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Many a Saturday afternoon spent there with my best friend Pam Shrubsole (now Adams) and after 58 years, she still my friend.
my friend and I went to sherry a lot and then I work there not for long the little old man that owen it was a well not a very nice. we uses to go to comos as well.
I went to a primary school on Victoria Road in the 50's but it closed in about 1958/9 - it was called Romford Royal College - does anyone remember or have any knowledge of it? It was a large house owned by a French woman and she lived there with her two daughters who were also teachers - I can find no records anywhere for this school.
I remember playing up the market, pinching an apple from the stall and running away, then playing 'knock down ginger' up the top of the market, then hiding in the crowds.
