More about this scene

The River Stort formed the boundary between Hertfordshire and Essex and provided the transportation service for the malting industry in the town. Today it is mainly used by pleasure craft, although there are plans for some small commercial use. The Stort has its source near Clavering in Essex, and increases in width and becomes navigable at Bishop's Stortford. It flows southwards and eventually empties into the Thames.

Happy Days At Rws
Hello. After leaving RWS the boys and girls in 1969-70. Wanstead. I went to RWS Hyde Hall 1970-71, just before it closed. I can recall sharing the dormitory with 5 girls from different cultural backgrounds. I really enjoyed their friendship. Unfortunately, I have not had any further contact with them. Fishing In The Stort Neil Riley
I was 6 years old when I first went fishing at Sawbridgeworth. We lived in Sayesbury Road from 1948 to 1960 and at the back of our house was Chalk Farm, where I spent a lot of time playing football with the farmer's son and shooting rats with our air guns. Hi, I went to RWS in 1957 but` was only there for two or three terms because I hated the place. My salvation was the friends I made there and the music teacher who was very kind, with whom I had piano lessons. Miss Edmed was the head teacher while I was there, what a tartar she was. Best Time At Great Hyde Hall

I loved my time spent at Great Hyde Hall. I was a flrinty as we came and joined Chantry Mount at Bishop Stortford and must say they all made us feel very welcome, then we all moved to Great Hyde Hall. Can remember all sitting in the Great Hall where the dome was and dead flies fell over us all. Stayed at the school after I finished my school years to work at the stables with Ann Cross. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
