I remember walking to the Lido from Earls Barton, with my sister May. We would take a picnic of cheese sandwiches and a bottle of water and stay there all day. As we got older it was the ideal place to eye up all the boys. Happy days! Isabel Marchant (then Wilson)

Westbourne has a village feel, even though it is a major suburb of Bournemouth. Its clifftops offer extensive views across the shining waters of Poole Bay.

The Victorians gave fanciful names - such as the Wishing Chair to this 'basalt honeycomb'- to many of the natural features of the Causeway coast.
Demolition of the Grammar School began in June 1998, and by the following January plans were approved for the building of these modern homes.
The crown was made as part of the decorations for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and was sold to Canada after the celebrations.
Built on a large mound which was part of the town's defences, this is one of Britain's largest keeps. There is a well-preserved medieval kitchen, and the keep is richly decorated throughout.
This watery way running through the village is where the stream was diverted to run along the road specifically to wash the wheels of carts and wagons and the feet of the horses.
The banks beside the road show how it has eroded with use over hundreds of years; because of this the houses and small cottages on Church Street have steps down to the pavement.
The seat of the medieval governance of the city, the Guildhall was built in 1407-13, but 1930s demolition in the market area has exposed the mainly Victorian south elevation to general view.
This aerial view of the Town Centre shows the wide roads threading through the landscape wedges. St Paul's Church was designed to contrast with the building styles of the large buildings around it.
This fascinating view of Rochester Cathedral was taken from the castle. The central tower was rebuilt ten years later, and was crowned with a spire.
A study of some attractive old cottages at East Mill. A little girl is staring suspiciously at the camera. Note the unmetalled surface of the road.
This photograph shows the spire of St Andrew's church at Clewer, which is situated on the Thames, looking up towards Windsor Castle. Many servants of the royal household are buried in its churchyard.
