Selsdon Primary School

A Memory of Selsdon.

We moved to Selsdon in 1952 from Blackheath and I started primary school which was on the ground floor of the building in the picture. We lived at 4 Foxearth Road up until 1972 when my mother, who was widowed in 1962, moved to South Croydon. I left in 1970 for Italy where I have been ever since. I loved going to Littleheath Woods as a child to play, or to the library on a Saturday morning, which was situated, at the time, in a large house down the Upper Selsdon Road on the corner of Arundel Avenue. There was a wonderful bay window in the children's section with a window seat where I passed many a happy hour. In 1952 milk was still delivered by the Express Dairy's horse and cart and my sister and I would feed Duke.
