More about this scene
Shaw developed as part of Crompton and by the early 1900s it had 29 spinning mills. The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway brought cheap coal for the textile trade from 1863, passing Shaw`s own Jubilee Colliery. Most local needs could be found on Market Street, with its stone-fronted shops. Many of Shaw`s sturdy stone terraced houses had no bathrooms, and a tin bath is on sale on the left. Shop signs have been made with pride. The triangular-topped frontage right of centre is James Duckworth`s grocer's shop. Shaw became part of Oldham in 1974.
